As a new parent, I was inundated with opinions and advice on what baby stuff to buy. I think I either considered or bought every piece of baby gear out there. I'll try to cut through the fear, uncertainty and doubt (a.k.a. "FUD") and give you some practical recommendations for what you really need. Oh, and my son made it successfully to toddlerhood, so don't worry: you'll survive the first year.

Before you get to buy baby gear, you have to make the baby. Sometimes, that's not so easy. Susan Ito, a friend from my writers' group, contributed to this anthology of essays about reproductive choice. I'm anxious to read it, and will post a review when I have.

cwgentry`s rating:
As a new parent--and even as your child grows into a toddler and beyond--you may feel like you've bought a First Class ticket on a Guilt Trip. And it won't be your kid who sent you on it, necessarily: it will be other parents, and most likely, yourself. This lively book addresses the incredible expectations mothers put on themselves, and offer suggestions for keeping those expectations--and your sanity--under control. The authors interviewed hundreds of mothers, from whom they got some of the wonderful quotes that pepper the pages. (My favorite: "A boner in the back is not foreplay." Those of you wondering what happened to your sex life post-baby will understand.) Highly recommended reading.
