As a new parent, I was inundated with opinions and advice on what baby stuff to buy. I think I either considered or bought every piece of baby gear out there. I'll try to cut through the fear, uncertainty and doubt (a.k.a. "FUD") and give you some practical recommendations for what you really need. Oh, and my son made it successfully to toddlerhood, so don't worry: you'll survive the first year.

Once your baby can hold his/her head up, you'll thank God for this contraption, which gives you a nice break if you need to oh, fix dinner or something. My son's favorite feature was the thing that played words in English and Spanish, along with animal noises. (I think he just liked making noise. He still does.) Once he could cruise, he liked walking around the outside, throwing things into the seat part, and watching them roll around the base. Note that this item will take a lot of real estate in your living room, but it's worth it.

They don't call this a clutch cube for nothing. My son clutched at this thing as though his life depended on it. Really came in handy during car rides. It smells, good, too.
